Captain Ed notes that in 2003 John McCain said, “Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here and pay taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it.”

It’s now 2007 and 21 years after the last amnesty. In 2003, 17 years after the last amnesty McCain was talking about people here for “20, 30, or 40 years”. Why didn’t they take advantage of the last amnesty? The only people here in “need” of the current “normalization” should have arrived between the previous amnesty date and January 1st, 2007.

What do we do about the people who did not avail themselves of the last amnesty?

Patrick Ruffini also notes McCain’s 2003 comments.
